Shirley Moran Marching Band Festival

Over this past weekend, the Xavier Marching Saints participated in the Shirley

Moran Marching Band Festival with a multitude of other marching bands. All of the band

had a lot of fun, with many joining in on the cheer of “Go base drums!” started by a drum

line member.

In an interview with Mr. Chad Allard, the band director, he answered the following

questions:

How would you describe marching band to someone who doesn’t know much about

marching band?

“Marching Band is like a concert band, but we are outside and we move to the music. We can visually represent the music through marching and body movement.”

What was your favorite moment of the show?

“My favorite moment during the show is the big hit point in the second song(Largo).”

How has the band improved from last year?

“Our band is very young. We have approx. 80 members that are in their 1st or 2nd year of

marching band. They are doing an excellent job and keep improving each year.”

How did the competition go overall?

“We got 2nd place and were only 1 point away from 1st place. Overall--It was our best

performance of the year. The students really stepped up to the situation and had a great

performance.”

Overall, the Xavier Marching Saints placed 2nd out of 8 bands in the 3A category,

receiving a score of 72.10, less than 1 point away from 1st place. 1st went to the Mount

Vernon Marching Mustangs, who received a score of 73.05. The band had plenty of fun, and

they hope to see you at their other performances this year!
